“ The most important people at Liverpool Football Club are the people who want to be there .” These are simple but powerful words for footballers to live by , spoken by Sir Kenny Dalglish , undeniably a well-known football legend .
The same maxim applies to SJI ’ s Football CCA . We welcome the return of Mr Bernard Teo after a hiatus of three years , to assist in the smooth running of the CCA . Mr Teo played a key role in the setting up of the Football CCA in 2012 and was our pioneering Teacher-in-Charge . Upon his return as the Assistant Teacher-in-Charge , he wasted no time in reestablishing a good working relationship with the members of the Football fraternity .
Earlier in the year , we witnessed the hunger in our ‘ B ’ Division boys during the first-round match of SSSC League 1 Tournament against the Singapore Sports School . While we lost to a better team , the fighting spirit of our Josephians was well and truly alive throughout the match . Our boys kept their heads high , as the words of Mr Teo resonated in their minds , ‘ Play hard ; Play safe ; Play fair ’.
The ‘ C ‘ Division boys had their share of an engaging encounter with the Singapore Sports School as well . In their first round match of the SSSC League 1 Tournament , our junior team triumphed 1-0 over their adversaries with the winning goal from Xavier Chong . The Captain of the ‘ C ’ Division team , Lim Kai Pin , attributed their resounding success to the synergy of a truly united team . A young man of few words , Kai Pin leads his team by example , and by his actions . He often takes the initiative to resolve conflicts and to inspire the team to a common goal .

This year we hosted the Ortega Cup , an annual friendly match with Raffles Institution , with the support of the SJIOBA and we emerged champions . Our junior boys also carried out their obligatory VIA activities at the Rainbow Centre , which reinforced their commitment to serve the less fortunate children in our midst . Finally , we would like to convey our heartfelt gratitude to all who have been there for us , and want to be with us , in rain or shine . The Spirit of SJI football lives in our hearts .
