Lasallian Distinguished Service Award

Manuel Tristan Pereira ( FN403 )
Manuel Tristan Pereira exhibits many ideals and values espoused by the school . His readiness to be of service to both his peers and teachers is clearly evident in the way he commits himself wholeheartedly to his duties and responsibilities . Honest and sincere , he has always been a dependable friend to his peers . He shows maturity of thought when articulating his views and ideas . He is also sensitive to the feelings of others and shows empathy when communicating with others . In group work or projects , he is a team player and will not hesitate to give his views , opinions and suggestions to enhance discussions .
Both his form tutors , Ms Tan Lay Moi and Mrs Wang Pei Feng , share , “ Manuel is a rare gem who is greatly respected by his peers and well-liked by all his teachers . He is a great source of inspiration and a role model to others . Conversant and linguistically adept , he speaks with confidence and communicates his thoughts effectively . He is skilful in capturing the interest and involvement of his peers . We are indeed very blessed to have a student like Manuel in our class .”
His Physics tutor and Prefectorial Board mentor , Ms Wong Kah Yan , adds , “ Something which Manuel did and left a deep impression on me happened when he was nominated to attend a dialogue session with the Second Minister of Education , Ms Indranee Rajah . Father Danker had mentioned that he was very keen to have our students take part in such dialogue sessions as these help to build student leaders ’ capacity . Manuel took those words to heart and took down meticulous notes during the dialogue with the Minister which he then shared with us . He is a sincere young man who is genuinely thankful for the opportunities given to him .”
As an EXCO member of the Prefectorial Board , Manuel displayed excellent organizational and leadership skills . He conscientiously carried out his daily duties in addition to the numerous school-wide events . As the President of Legion of Mary ( Queen of All Saints ), he garnered the cooperation and respect of his juniors and peers . He is a born leader who is humble and gives due respect to others . A dedicated and committed member of the SJI Drama Club , he represented the school at the 2019 Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation for Drama and the Human Values Festival in 2018 . Through the Values in Action Programme , Manuel contributed to projects such as Community Service at the St Theresa ’ s Home where he spent time with the elderly on a weekly basis .
Ms Nalini , teacher-in-charge of the Drama Club , states , “ Manuel has been an exemplary leader of the Drama Club . He has gone out of his way to encourage his peers as well as his juniors . He leads with passion and this is especially seen in the way he interacts with those who work with him . His peers and juniors listen to him and have respect for him . It is also gratifying that he extends his appreciation to those who have worked with him and taken the time to guide him . Manuel played a pivotal role as a leader to encourage his juniors and peers to give their best and he on his part did likewise . He ensures that he carries out every role with utmost passion . This was clearly exemplified in his role as an actor in the 2019 Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation for Drama , where he portrayed his character , Paris , with utmost clarity and feeling ”.
Manuel is compassionate and understanding . He is sensitive to the needs of people around him , shows a keen sense of respect for others and is dedicated to serve his peers . Grounded and humble , he is indeed a worthy recipient of the Lasallian Distinguished Service Award .
