ArtScience
Imagination , Innovation and Community . These 3 words embodied the ArtScience spirit in SJI . Imagination is arguably the most powerful driving force in mankind . More specifically , active imaginations tend to lead to innovation and invention . It is both the ingenuity and creativity of enterprising inventors that have led to the greatest bounds and leaps in human progress , stretching the boundaries of possibility and reality . This was a fundamental factor that led to Professor David Edwards founding the ArtScience Prize to nurture such innovators , and this is why Imagination and Innovation are of paramount importance to the ArtScience Programme .
The ArtScience programme began in January 2018 . Students performed thought-provoking experiments and activities , designed to help them solve problems related to the theme for this year - Biodiversity . They also put together innovative proposals that would address some of these issues in a creative yet realistic way . Prototyping their solutions was also another new criteria for the students .
ASP3-5 CleanBoost
On May 25 , students and visitors trickled in from all over Singapore to witness the yield of 5 months of hard work and passion of the Year 3 IP students in the ArtScience Programme . They were met with a range of exciting and intriguing projects , where the enthusiastic students wholeheartedly shared their products and solutions to help solve problems worldwide .
The teams of students set up the posters , presentation slides and models that they had painstakingly created over the past few months . The projects displayed were unorthodox yet creative , including light-emitting devices devised from bioluminescent animals such as Dinoflagellates and Jellyfish , to campaigns that brought out awareness about air pollution in Singapore .
When interviewed , Joseph Lee ( LE302 ) said , “ ArtScience has given me the opportunities and resources to innovate and to think out-of-the-box .”
