Lasallian Distinguished Leadership and Service Award

Bou Dolphie
( TG611 )
Dolphie is a natural leader - confident , articulate and deeply sensitive to others . In her two years in SJI , she has served our community competently in various leadership positions and truly grown into a compassionate woman who displays maturity beyond her age . Her cultural background and Lasallian education have inspired her to dream of a more just and equal world .
Capable and independent , Dolphie has been entrusted with many leadership opportunities . At one point , she was Captain for women ’ s football , Vice-captain for the Marcian fraternity , Head of Publicity for TEDx @ SJI and rehearsing for a lead role in the school musical , all at the same time . Not only does it take an appetite for challenge to willingly take up these responsibilities , it is also testament to her readiness to serve others .
Mr Senthil Kumaran , CAS supervisor for football , has nothing but high praise for her , “ She was unanimously supported when elected as Captain . Dolphie has persevered against many obstacles to strengthen and maintain the camaraderie of her team . One could argue that she was the spark that ignited the culture of women ’ s football in SJI . Essentially , her actions have earned the respect and admiration of those who worked with her .”
As the class representative in 2017 , she was an indispensable help to the class tutor . She was counted on to rally her classmates together for school events or level activities . It was not easy , as responses to her effort could sometimes be lukewarm . Nevertheless , she persevered each time and strategically activated the help of some peers in class to get everyone on board .
Dolphie ’ s warm personality is appreciated by teachers and friends alike . Mr Alan Johnson , teacher-in-charge of Drama CAS , shared , “ She was always deeply concerned about the well-being of the cast and crew . She would speak to the teachers if she felt like there were any issues that required greater teacher attention and support . Her efforts in building the community were apparent - she would encourage and assist anyone who needed help .” Dolphie inspires others - one of them is classmate Ryan Teo , who says that conversations with Dolphie can inspire personal growth , because of her generosity and maturity .
Dolphie is socially aware and shows keen interest in the humanities . She clearly wants to make a positive impact in this world , expressing the desire to contribute to Singaporean society before returning to her home country , Cambodia , to catalyse change .
A strong-willed and big-hearted individual grounded by a clear moral compass , Dolphie is the Lasallian force for good that will continue to lead and influence community .
Dolphie ’ s infuses her positive energy into her day to day lessons . Ms P Marakatham , her history tutor , remarks , “ As a critical thinker and a passionate student , Dolphie is ever ready to share her ideas , initiate class discussions , contributing to intellectual curiosity and debate .” Her active engagement is also recognised by her other subject tutors . Her French tutor , Mr Jean-Paul Heusdens adds , “ Dolphie is one of the very few students who understood that a lesson goes far beyond its subject content and that learning a new language is an opening to another world , another way of thinking and speaking about life and the world .”
