Ernest Ang Boon Khiong

Ernest is a motivated and committed individual , never failing to encourage his classmates and leading by example . He is known for his ability to motivate and encourage others and is especially skilled at mobilizing his peers to express themselves effectively concerning matters that are of special interest to their age group .
Ernest assumed several leadership positions in a short span of four years in SJI . As a leader , he offers his support and guidance to those who need it and acts as a role model to his peers . Besides serving as Deputy Head Prefect , Ernest led the SJI Judo team as the Vice-Captain where he ensured the welfare of his team-mates and upheld team camaraderie during training and competition . Outside of training , he helped to plan the Judo International Education trip to Thailand where he volunteered to build facilities for Bamboo School and teach students . He also helped out at Willing Hearts Soup Kitchen and cleaned the flats of the elderly during the Lasallian Leadership Training Camp . His generosity of spirit and willingness to offer his time and help to others have earned him the respect of people around him .
The overarching theme of Ernest ’ s involvement in SJI has been a focus on creating a community that is truly inclusive . He has achieved this through his participation in a range of school events . In 2017 he helped out at the 165th Anniversary Gala Dinner and in 2018 he signed up as a Peer Support Facilitator to help organise and carry out the Orientation Camp for Secondary One students . He was also part of the SJI Carnival Organising Committee which brought Mahalo : SJI Carnival 2018 , to the SJI community and the public . Together with the 7th Secondary Student Council , he organised the 2018 World Cup Final screening for students in SJI . One of his greatest leadership qualities has been his focus on connecting with and mentoring others . His Secondary Four form tutor , Mrs Amy Chua , has this to say of him , “ Ernest is actively involved in school activities and has helped in organising many events . He is blessed with a great sense of humour which helps to lift the spirits of the students around him .”
a Lasallian .” Mr Chong Chow Wee , his Prefectorial Board mentor , adds that “ Ernest is most certainly a principled young man who is truly selfless in service . He is , as his name suggests , earnest and unassuming and he fulfills his many responsibilities and beyond with humility and passion .”
Ernest embodies all the qualities of an exemplary student who is recognised and held in high regard for his leadership by example and service to others and one who dedicates his time and energy for good without ever seeking the spotlight for himself . He is grounded and humble and certainly a worthy recipient of the Lasallian Distinguished Service Award .
When asked to describe his leadership and service qualities , Ernest graciously shared , “ personally , I am thankful for all the leadership roles that I have been graced with as these positions and opportunities are what really allowed me to use my talents to serve the SJI community , live the school values of faith , service and community and develop as
