In 2018 , the Astronomy Club participated in , as well as organised , a variety of activities to expand our horizons and deepened our knowledge in Astronomy .
Firstly , we participated in inter-school astronomy competitions such as the annual AstroChallenge . It was an eye-opening experience , providing us with the opportunity to interact with members from other schools , and compete in challenges centering on astronomical knowledge . Although SJI Astronomy is a relatively new CAS compared to the Astronomy clubs of other schools , we managed to secure a position in the finals . Overall , AstroChallenge was a very enlightening experience that honed our abilities and enriched our knowledge in Astrophysics .
Secondly , the Astronomy CAS hosted a school-wide stargazing session in SJI on the eve of 31st January in SJI , with the aim of sharing our passion for Astronomy . That night , we witnessed the “ super blue blood moon ”, which only occurs once every 150 years . Many were mesmerized by the breathtaking sight , and we were glad that we could share this experience with non-astronomy CAS members and introduce them to the beauty of Astronomy . Organizing and preparing for the event was challenging but fruitful , as the event turned out to be a huge success .

As of now , Astronomy is also looking to expand and collaborate with other schools , by participating in recent networking events so that we can contribute to the wider Astronomy community beyond our CAS , and exchange information with other schools ’ clubs .
