The SJI Society of Saint Vincent de Paul ( SSVP ) visits Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital regularly to engage the residents though activities and conversations . This year , our members worked with the elderly to create clay animals , trinket boxes and flower arrangements . These activities help the elderly exercise their fine motor skills in a fun way and give them a sense of accomplishment when they see their creations . More importantly , it makes them feel cared for and happy .

SSVP also organised a Chinese New Year Ang Pow donation drive which helped raised $ 7,500 for Kwong Wai Shui Hospital towards the care of their residents . Our members went the extra mile to contribute Chinese New Year goodies and food items which we put together into two hampers for the elderly to enjoy . In May , we also held a fundraiser through the sale of Mother ’ s Day gift items which were handmade by the residents of Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital . We are grateful to the SJI community for their continuous support in our efforts to serve the poor and make a difference in the lives of others .
As a society , we encourage our members to put their faith in action through person-to-person contact . Through our interactions with the elderly , we hope that our members will learn to see Christ in others and develop empathy for the less fortunate . We also take time to pray together and bond through games and food .
