Clive Marvelous ( ML402 ), Matthew Elmer Ken ( ML402 ) and Medhansh Bhagchandani ( FN101 ), participated in Ngee Ann Polytechnic ’ s annual StrITwise competition in March . It was a camp-cum-competition . Our boys had a taste for the Amazing race which involved finding hidden QR codes , scanning them to reveal clues . They then started earnest preparation for the competition based on the theme “ Genesis : The Beginning of the End ”. This involved coding their very own game in the Python 3 programming language with a Google voice kit . Our students had a unique chance to learn about voice recognition . They managed to acquire a new experience through this competition .
Wang Haoji ( FN303 ) participated in the National Informatics Olympiad ( NOI ) at the NUS school of Computing on 17 March and won a bronze medal .
The team comprising of Andrew Petselis ( FN203 ), Caleb Ryan Lim ( ML203 ) and Earl John Amiel Del Rosario Castillo ( ML201 ) participated in the annual National Robotics Competition ( NRC ) in September 2018 . “ Precision Farming ” was the theme of this year ’ s NRC . The mission required the team to build a robot which could place ‘ coloured trees ’ precisely in the designated spots depending on the six black / white soil quality data blocks which the robot should detect and remember at the start of the task . Besides building the robot and programming it to perform the mission , the boys had to prepare a 10-minute presentation to explain their research and logic to the judges . This competition has allowed the boys to learn a host of skills .
