CHAPTER FOUR
International Education ( IE )
2018 saw a record number of overseas programmes organised for both the Year 3 and Year 5 students under the International Education and Global Education Programme respectively . In addition to usual service programmes that the school engages in , students had the opportunity to work with animals and environment as well , recognising that to secure a betterment of the world today involves their participation in different areas .
The IE programme aims to provide an enriching learning experience beyond the formal curriculum for the students , thus encouraging them to learn how to learn and learn how to live in the global village and empowering them to become Men of Integrity and Men for Others .
The overseas sites , including Thailand , Vietnam and the Philippines , offered a real-life , hands-on experience for students to develop in the socioemotional domain . Students immersed themselves in the environment to provide services to the overseas community and in hope that in the future , they will aspire to commit to the betterment of humankind .
St John Brigade and Guitar Ensemble IE Trip Sharing a vision of serving ‘ the last , the lost and the least ’, 32 boys and 4 teachers from St John Brigade and Guitar Ensemble set out on an IE trip to Thailand and visited the Bang Lamung Home for Boys and Baan Toong Krad Primary School . With their skills and knowledge , the students taught the children basic First Aid , hygiene , reusing of recycled materials to make games or musical instruments . There , they seized this unique opportunity to learn more about Thai culture , visited the Temple of Reclining Buddha , the Nithas Rathanagosin Exhibition and the Jaroenthong Muay Thai School to widen their horizon and perspectives . While they initially thought they were going to give to the less fortunate , they realised that they were given the best gift of all - a reminder of true service to humanity .
