SJI COMMUNITY such as Tamil Language Drama , the MOE ICT Conference , the MOE-ACJC Debates , the MOE Research Study Exhibition and Science Mentorship Programme , the Commonwealth Essay Competition and the Write for Kindness story-writing competition . They accomplished all this because of communal support , collaboration and encouragement .
And you will see this in our teachers too . It is indeed their collective labour and collaboration that have enabled every student to realise his or her fullest potential . Their partnership together has also built up the school to become what she is today . They are the reason for SJI ’ s significance in quality education and character formation that many aspire to come to our school for .
For me , all of the above speaks of how good a home SJI is . It provides the right environment for our students to grow and do well , and for our teachers to give their best to develop every student . There is however a foundational truth at the heart of everything we do in SJI and we are as a school community . A mother of one of our graduating IB students says this best . Writing about the Year 6 Graduation , she noted that while it was “ a celebration of the students ’ years in St Joseph ’ s Institution , the friendship they had developed , the growth and learning gained and the promise of the journeys ahead ” what the ceremony summed up about the school was “ simply and profoundly a message of love to the students ”. For her , love mattered : it gave the Year 6s a foundation , a reference point , a belief , a unifying experience .
Indeed , love matters . It reminds us that all of us are alike . It calls us to care and uplift one another . It challenges us to become better as persons of integrity and persons for others . The one love that empowers us to live like this is God ’ s love . This love holds every Josephian , whether teacher or student , in God ’ s hands that are always perfecting us to live life well and happily . This has been the profound experience of 2018 : that God holds every one of us , and SJI , close to Godself as we study and learn , teach and care , live and grow , play and pray . We are indeed thankful for God ’ s blessings this year .
As we look ahead to 2019 , may our good and gracious God take us into the new school year , and help us make SJI , our home , even better and brighter , and blessed always by God ’ s holy presence who we always remember we dwell in .
Ora et Labora !
