CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES ( CCA ) & CREATIVITY ACTIVITY AND SERVICE ( CAS )
The SJI Vocal Ensemble ( VE ) took part in a number of very exciting ventures this year .
In August , we had the rare opportunity to perform with the Orchestra of the Music-Makers at one of the best concert halls in the world , The Esplanade . Collaborating with Raffles Institution and Dunman Secondary School , we delivered a spectacular performance of composer Gustav Mahler ’ s 2nd Symphony . Even though the piece was difficult to master , with the Common Tests being just a few days after the concert , we managed to give the audience a most unforgettable experience . From this experience , we learnt that our perseverance and commitment had made us shine .
The SJI Vocal Ensemble also had the opportunity to display our talents at other concerts and events throughout the year . Performing at the Singapore Conference Hall for Jubilate : Why We Sing , we sang a variety of songs , from a rendition of the Bastille ’ s “ Pompeii ”, to the mellow and ceremonial “ How Can It Be ?” by Dan Forrest . This concert was also the last performance for the graduating Year 4 members of the Vocal Ensemble . We also performed at school events such as at the solemn washing of the feet on Maundy Thursday , SJI Arts ’ Alive , as well as the SJI Inaugural Ceremony . All of these not only deepened our experiences as performers but also strengthened the spirit of giving and of building community in us .
Inaugural Assembly
The VE members , with their teachers in charge , headed for their International Experience trip to Chiang Mai , Thailand in November , where they would learn about the importance of being Men for Others , and through the shared experiences , forge closer bonds with one another .
