Lenten Project 2016
During the Lenten season , Secondary 1 to 4 students embarked on different service projects , as part of their RMSE programme . These projects aimed to raise their social consciousness about the plight and discrimination faced by the needy and the migrant workers . They also aspired to help them discover their faith through the experience of showing mercy and compassion towards the needy and the community at large , and in this way better appreciate SJI ’ s mission of nurturing them to become men for others .
The newly inducted Secondary 1 boys distributed grocery supplies to 27 needy Muslims staying at the nearby Sin Ming Industrial Estate . This is the second year that Josephians have reached out to our Muslim brothers and sisters since SJI first made contact with the Harmony Centre at An-Nahdhah Mosque in Bishan ( which is next to our holding school ).
“ SJI Lenten Gift ” – to help meet the needs of the families of the one-room flat dwellers living in Toa Payoh Lorong 6 . The majority of the boys rendered their services by cleaning these homes and providing essential foodstuffs ; they brought much joy to these families during the Eastertide .
One of the classes successfully “ transformed ” an entire home , even though the family requested that the boys paint their house . The boys made a trip to this family ’ s home during the school holidays . Once there , they divided themselves into smaller groups to paint the living room and the bedroom , and to fix the wall fan , water pipe , ceiling light and metal door . By taking turns to complete these tasks amongst themselves , they accomplished their objectives in the one-day trip . As the house was being transformed , one of the students , together with their teacher , brought the children out for lunch and to a movie . The students also contributed some funds to buy provisions for the family .
