SJI CHARACTER AND FAITH FORMATION EXPERIENCE ( CAFFE )
Character education and faith formation are integral parts of the holistic education offered in the SJI IB programme . For our Senior School students , the SJI Character and Faith Formation Experience ( CAFFE ) programme provides them with a platform to develop themselves morally and spiritually as they mature into adulthood . CAFFE shares with the Secondary School ’ s 4 year RMSE programme the mission of enabling youth in a Lasallian community to learn how to learn and to learn how to live – empowering them to become persons of integrity and persons for others .
A closer look at the SJI motto : “ Ora et Labora ” This year , the JC2 students will delve deeper into the meaning of the SJI motto - “ Ora et Labora ”.
Under " Ora ", the students will be looking closer at the interior life . This will encompass prayer and silence , their rationale and importance . It will also consider methods of reflection to help in processing of emotions and experiences . Under this section as well , the students will explore issues on sexuality and sexual morality , and understand lust and desire and their place in the human experience .
Under “ Labora ”, the students will be challenged to take action . Looking at issues such as inequality , poverty and intolerance , the students will examine these topics at a deeper level and discuss in order firstly to understand and empathise with the situations and subsequently , to take concrete steps to address these problems .
The final understanding the students must reach at the end of the experience must be one of integrating both sides . “ Ora et Labora ” means that as Josephians leaving the school into the world , they must be “ contemplatives in action ” – Thinkers and Doers , making a well-thought out and carefully considered positive change in society .
