With each passing year , in alignment to the school ’ s Mission , the Green Club intensifies its agenda of advancing a green lifestyle at SJI .
Students are empowered , via the Class Executive Committee , and in particular the Green Ambassador of each class , to plan and execute green initiatives . Every class now has an avowed class recycling system in place- the success of which depends also on the guidance and parameters set by their respective Class Tutors .
Earth Day message - Plant a thought , reap a reward
The Green Club also capitalises on major school events like the annual Sports Day and Cross Country race to heighten the SJI community ’ s awareness on environmental care and protection . Recycling points had been set up during those events held outside of the school campus . It was heartening to see the students and teachers doing their part by recycling the plastic bottles and cans .
We have also permeated the green message to the Bishan / Thomson neighbourhood through our annual Gift of Sight Project ( GOSP ). In this project , we collected reusable eyeglasses from the residents . These eyeglasses are eventually shipped to third world countries for free distribution to the needy .
