CANOEING
Pioneering in 1989 , the Canoeing Team started training and till today , the ‘ C ’ Division has triumphed 16 times as national champions and the ‘ B ’ Division , 6 times .
On 8 April , the intense 4-day competition began . “ Pain is temporary , glory lasts eternally ” was the canoeists ’ mantra and their efforts were not in vain . During the races , those in the waters fought valiantly while those on land stood shoulder to shoulder , cheering zealously at the top of their voices . Despite unfavourable results , everyone gave his all .
The ‘ B ’ Division saw two double-Silver medalists ; Chua Teck Yan emerging as 2nd for both the K1-500m and K1-1000m events , and Muhammad Syazwan , attaining the runner-up position for the C1-500m and C1-1000m events . For the C2 events , SJI was represented by two pairs : Samuel Choy and Jonah Tan ; Lan Yi Xiang and Cheong Kai Lun . The former performed impressively , attaining 2nd position for the 1000m event and 1st position for the 500m ; while the latter , despite unfavourable conditions , managed to qualify for the finals and achieved the 4th and 5th positions for the 1000m and 500m races respectively . Kane Huang , Klement Tan , Ian Chan , Brandon Lim , in the K4-1000m event , were determined to do their best ; they crossed the finish line in 4th position . The K4-500m event saw Jerryl Goh , Matthias Lim , Christopher Low and Tan Jian Hui win the victorious Gold medal sweeping past schools like Hwa Chong Institution and Temasek Secondary School . Every team and canoeist who qualified for the finals meant more points for the school , thus resulting in SJI emerging 2nd in the ‘ B ’ Division category .

In the ‘ C ’ Division , although the boys did not win the championship , they put up a tough fight against their opponents : ACS ( I ) and Hwa Chong Institution . Ryan Tan clinched a commendable double Silver in the K1-1000m and K1-500m events . Jeremiah Jiang won the Gold medal for the C1-500m race . Others include Ambrose Yew and Hari Shiman R attaining the Bronze medal for the C2 event , Zenton Yam and Amos Aloysius Lau for the K2-1000m , earning a Silver medal , and Sai Shein Htet , Ng Zheng Jie , Yong Woon Hao , and Jovian Low for the K4 , clinching the Gold medal . All their combined efforts led to SJI ‘ C ’ Division achieving the 2nd runner-up position .
