MALAY CULTURAL SOCIETY
Introduction
Over the year , Malay Cultural Society ( MCS ) has participated in many school-based activities such as the Mutien Festival and Racial Harmony Day . Among the highlights is the Cultural Exchange Programme hosting students from China where we shared with them the etiquette of Malay dining and taught them the Malay traditional game of Sepak Takraw . To foster friendship and bonding among our members , we organised iftar ( the breaking of fast ) and a post- Hari Raya cum Farewell for the Secondary Four members . During the weekly sessions , members participate in an array of activities linked to the Malay culture . Some examples would be cultural workshops where members were given insight on the art of making Jong ( a small boat ) and the Layang-layang ( kite ), playing traditional games , planning for future MCS activities and also a singing competition in search of the MCS IDOL 2013 .

Singapore Youth Festival – Certificate of Accomplishment 2013 Apart from school-based activities , the Malay Cultural Society has also taken part in the Singapore Youth Festival ( SYF ). The SJI Malay Cultural Society participated in the 2013 Singapore Youth Festival under the Malay Contemporary Dance category . Our performance , titled “ Fajar ”, was awarded Accomplishment in the Secondary School level . Our dancers were a mix of students coming from different cultural backgrounds . We have dancers from Vietnam , China , Indonesia and not forgetting our locals . The dancers trained months beforehand prior to the festival and gave their all for the SYF performance . They also showcased the dance during the Mutien Festival in SJI .
