GUITAR ENSEMBLE
The SJI Guitar Ensemble has progressed greatly since its establishment in 2005 . As this year is the Singapore Youth Festival ( SYF ) Arts Presentation , the Guitar Ensemble , since October 2012 , has channelled our energy and enthusiasm into practice , hoping that with heartfelt dedication and passion , we would be able to pull through to the end and attain the results we aimed to achieve . Indeed , by the end of our SYF journey , we are proud to say that we have lived up to our motto :“ One Ensemble , One Sound ”.
Our journey along the way was filled with many experiences and events which enlightened us in so many ways :
7th National Guitar Ensemble Festival We took part in the 7th National Guitar Ensemble Festival 2013 held at Republic Polytechnic . It was an opportunity for us to perform and showcase our ensemble pieces to schools participating in the SYF , as well as a chance for us to listen to the pieces of other participating ensembles . This experience was meaningful too , as the proceeds from the Festival went to Club Rainbow , a charitable organisation in Singapore providing service to chronically-ill children and their families .
Masterclasses ( Robert Casteels , Niibori ) We had the privilege of attending several guitar master classes in preparation for the SYF . We were not only given an opportunity to refine our pieces during the masterclasses , but also to learn about our newly purchased Niibori guitars and how to bring out the best sound through our posture and form . It was indeed an enriching experience for all of us , as it helped us greatly to realise the potential of our pieces .
SYF 2013 ( received the Distinction Award ) Singapore Youth Festival is a bi-annual arts presentation and festival in Singapore . This was the highlight of our year . Finally ,

all the hard work and effort during our six months of training ( starting from Oct 2012 ) paid off as we were awarded the Certificate of Distinction .
