SERVICE GROUPS
SOCIETY OF SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL
Collaborating With The Catholic Societies SSVP teamed up with the other Catholic Service Groups , the Legion of Mary and the Young Christian Students , to organise an annual two-day camp . The primary aim was to build a vibrant Catholic community bound by faith and spirit of service . The camp also helped induct and orientate the new Secondary One members into the larger Catholic community in the school .
The camp was a platform for honing the leadership skills of the members in the Catholic groups . The training session gave them insight into the core of service learning . In addition , campers were taken to the Surya Home for the aged where they were briefed on how to interact with and serve the elderly residents . This experience opened their minds to ageing as well as taught them how to better serve the elderly .
A post-camp activity was conducted to allow members to put into practice what they had learnt at the camp . Armed with cleaning equipment , members of the combined Catholic groups diligently tidied the one-room flats of elderly residents in Bukit Merah . This activity raised awareness of the less fortunate among members and put into action the school mission of being “ Men for Others ”.
Reflecting On Our Journey This year has undoubtedly been a meaningful year for SSVP . Members look forward to live up to the school mission of “ Being Men for Others ” and making a difference .
