LEGION OF MARY
In the Spirit of Faith , Service and Community
The Legion of Mary is among the three Catholic service societies in St Joseph ’ s Institution that strives to nurture in Josephians the core Lasallian values of faith , service and community .
Faith Aligned with the school motto , Ora et Labora ; to pray and to work , members of the Legion of Mary help to ensure that prayer is part of the daily routine in SJI . The society , divided into four praesidiums take turns to facilitate the daily morningprayer service in the chapel . The society also helps out with masses both in school as well as the larger community , such as collaborating with the Carmelite Sisters to celebrate the Feast of Mount Carmel .
Service Faith demands a response to serve . This year , Legionaries were given an opportunity to attend a service learning leadership workshop where they learnt about organization , facilitation and teamwork . Visits to St Teresa ’ s Home and Surya Home saw the students helping out in cleaning and catering to the needs of the residents . Members also helped out with the cleaning of one-room flats for the elderly at Bukit Merah .
Community Weekly fellowship is held for each praesidiem where members meet to pray , discuss and share . Besides the annual Lasallian Catholic Camp , a Games Day was held this year for the various Catholic Groups to come together as 2 a catholic community to play , eat and have fun together .
