INTER-SCHOOLS COMPETITIONS
Raffles Institution Tamil Literacy Competitions Indian Cultural Society ( ICS ) participated in the RI Tamil Literacy Competition held in celebration of its silver jubilee . The boys participated in the Essay writing , Oratorical , Quiz and poem writing competitions . Our members took part enthusiastically and clinched many prizes
Cedar Girls Secondary School – Victoria School Presents Sigaram 2012 This all-arts competition is the first of its kind . The ICS boys participated in Video Production , Vocal , Impromptu Drama and Quiz competition . Gokul Ragiv ( 101 ) took part in the Vocal Competition and won the 1st prize . The ICS team clinched 2nd and 3rd place in the Quiz and Impromptu Drama Competition . SJI also won the coveted Overall Champion trophy for the first time and it was certainly a feather in our cap .
INTER-SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
Udayam 2012 Udayam 2012 is a video production competition organized by the Indian Cultural Society for the second time in two years since its inaugural beginning in 2010 . The aim of this competition is to empower secondary school students with the use of modern technology to promote Tamil as a language in the space of arts and culture . The planning and organizing of Udayam served as a platform for members to hone their leadership skills and forge bonds among the Indian Community in SJI .
This year , we organized many intra school activities . The SJI ICS Indian Dance participated in the Arts Alive Programme . The Dance Choreographer , Mr Aravind played a big part in encouraging and bringing out the hidden talents of our very own dancers . During the Open House , we displayed our best projects .
Performance for Beijing No . 8 Middle School During this visit , our members presented an Indian Dance performance for our visitors from Beijing on their Exchange programme to Singapore . We taught the exchange students a few dance moves and explained the various dance forms to them .
Chinese New Year Concert The Indian Dance Group entertained the school during the Chinese New Year concert . Furthermore , we went to the St Theresa ’ s Home to entertain the elderly with our dance , as a way of giving back to the society .
Racial Harmony Day The ICS also helped to set up a stall during the Racial Harmony Day where we sold a variety of Indian delicacies to support the worthy cause of raising monies for the needy .

1 Bringing the boys from Beijing to Little India for a shopping trip 2 In line with our beliefs , The TVP Competition encapsulates training , where we are delighted to offer technical training at a workshop including video editing programme for other schools . 3 Manoharan Prem ( 435 ), Anirudh Vasudevan ( 309 ) , Ramu Nachiappan ( 303 ) and Hariharan S / O Mohanabala K ( 307 ) warmly welcoming the students from other schools during Udayam 4 Mr Ang and Kannan Ramananthan leading Mr Azhagiya Pandian , the guest of honour , to the Performing Arts Centre for the prize presentation for the Udayam competition
