Guitar Ensemble
The SJI Guitar Ensemble has experienced yet another fruitful year that left many of us with indelible memories .
Guitar Bonding Day 2012 The Guitar Bonding Day has been an annual tradition of establishing the spirit of camaraderie and friendship among all guitarists . It also marked the initiation of our juniors - Secondary Ones into our CCA with an array of fun-filled activities . During the March holidays , our guitarists had a great time hiking at the Dairy Farm Nature Trail and played team bonding games such as soccer , Captain ’ s ball and touch rugby . It was no doubt a memorable day where bonds were forged between the juniors and seniors .
Secondary Two Open Mic Guitar Performance In early March , the SJI Guitar Junior Ensemble participated in the Open Mic Performances 2012 . The team comprised Secondary Two members who trained hard for the performance . The pieces performed were Here Is Joy for Every Age , El Ruquet Valiant and El Bimbo . It was a remarkable experience for them and the performance was wellreceived by the audience . Most of all , it gave the juniors a valuable performing experience .

6th Guitar Competition @ ACJC On 14 April , the SJI Guitar Ensemble competed in the 6th Guitar Ensemble Competition held at ACJC . The competition provided a friendly platform for guitar ensembles from different schools to compete and seek ways to improve their musical abilities . The schools were judged according to the scoring criteria used in the SYF by a panel of distinguished adjudicators . The Senior Ensemble gave an excellent rendition of 3 pieces namely : Minuetto by Luigi Boccherini , James Bond Medley by John Barry and Kalimba by Jürg Kindle .
The SJI Guitar Ensemble came in 2nd in the Secondary School Category with a remarkable score of 86.2 %, equivalent of Gold with Honours standard at SYF and beating traditional heavyweights such as RI , Dunman High and NJC Junior High . Our student conductor , Gilbert Lim , clinched 2nd place in the Student Conductor Category .
