Principal ’ s Foreword
2012 is a significant year . St Josephʼs Institution not only celebrated her 160 years of rich heritage but also together with the other Lasallian schools commemorated 160 years of De La Salle brothers in Asia .
The 160th Anniversary Dinner on 12 May – the culmination of all the Homecoming Dinners that the SJIOBA had organised over the past two years – saw over 2200 alumni , retired and current staff , supporters and students gathered at the Malcolm Road campus . Laughter , entertainment and regaling of old stories dominated the dinner . The Josephian spirit was very much alive that night .
As we prepare to launch both the Integrated Programme ( IP ) and International Baccalaureate ( IB ) in 2013 , we took the opportunity to recruit more teachers . The first reason for doing so is a response to one of the recommendations of MOE ’ s Secondary Education Review & Implementation ( SERI ) committee where the Pupil-Teacher Ratio for secondary schools will be improved from 16:1 in 2009 to 13:1 by 2015 . The second reason is to recruit ahead so that we have the capacity to undertake curriculum development for both the IP and O-level tracks without compromising the learning of our existing students .
Teachers in the various departments have continued their work on their subject specific curriculum maps and reviewed them to ensure foundational concepts , principals and skills can be built upon . This review is done also in view of developing 21st century skills , competencies and dispositions such as communication , collaboration , critical and creative thinking and to enhance the social and emotional development of our students .
