Sailing
Initiated by students , Sailing began as a Co- Curricular Activity in the 1980s and had only a handful of sailors compared to the 15 strong now . To date , there have been 5 sailors who achieved the SJIOBA Sportsman of the Year Award . They are :
1 . Chung Pei Quan 2004 2 . Calvin Lim Zhi Yang 2005 3 . Low Wen Hao Lionel Myles 2008 4 . Luke Tan Yi Hao 2009 5 . Joshua Matthew Lim Tze Han 2012
National Inter-School Sailing Championships The SJI Sailing team continues to blaze the trail by being one of the top four sailing schools . During the National Inter-school Sailing Championships held in April the ‘ B ’ Division sailors tried to overcome all challenges and hardship with passion . The sailors comprising Joshua Lim ( 437 ), Andrew
Tan ( 423 ), Zachary Tan ( 436 ), Ian Chai ( 311 ), Nicholas Wee ( 302 ), Tan Yang Yi ( 309 ) and Joshua Chow ( 304 ) kept to the race and team strategies with much effort eventually attaining 4th placing the team event .
The ‘ C ’ Division sailors consisting of a team of seven , namely , optimist sailors : Edward Tan ( 205 ), Benedict Leong ( 108 ), Dylan Lye ( 109 ) as well as byte sailors Joshua Tan ( 205 ), Max Koh ( 205 ), Mark Wee ( 109 ) and Jerald Ha ( 104 ) sailed their way also to 4th position in the team event .
With perseverance and the undying Lasallian spirit , the SJI Sailing team will continue to work towards keeping the SJI flag flying high . All the achievements are not possible without parental support , teachers ’ guidance , and Coach Fendi who has helped bring about greater bonding among the sailors as well as impart valuable lessons during training .
