At the Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation,
we recognize and celebrate the philanthropic
leadership of our 2016/17 Board of Directors.
The Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation lost two former
Board of Directors members last year.
BRIAN TORSNEY
Former Board Chair, and committed supporter and community champion Brian
Torsney passed away on January 16, 2017.
Brian served as a member of the Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation Board of
Directors from 2007 to 2013, including a two year term as Chair which began
in 2011. In addition, he was an active member of the Our New Era Campaign
Cabinet, supporting the $60M campaign for the redevelopment and expansion of
Joseph Brant Hospital.
Brian was the President & Creative Director of PLAY Advertising, an award-
winning branding, digital and social agency located in Burlington. Previously,
he had served as a board member of Rotary and other organizations such as
Creative Arts (Festival of Friends), The Bach Elgar Choir, among others.
Brian’s leadership, positivity and unwavering support for Joseph Brant Hospital
will be missed.
PETER HOGARTH
In the Spring of 2017, we lost a dedicated volunteer and donor, Peter
Hogarth, who passed away on May 18.
Peter was a member of the Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation Board
of Directors from 2006 to 2012, and served on the Our New Era
Campaign Cabinet.

Peter was a multi-unit and multi-brand franchisee of Tim Horton’s and
Wendy’s Brands, and was also actively involved as an officer and board
member of The Pioneer Group Inc. He was a strong supporter of the
Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption and the Tim Horton’s Children’s
Foundation, and was very involved with the Hogarth Family Fund through
the Hamilton Community Foundation.
Peter’s thoughful and wise counsel made us better and will be missed.
