Our Strategic Directions
Our 2017-2022 Strategic Plan guides our journey of continuous improvement – it was the catalyst
for our plans, our progress and our achievements from the past year. Our strategic directions are:
1
Relentlessly pursue excellence in quality and patient safety.
We will continue to meet and exceed our ambitious goals to advance towards the highest
level of quality and safety, provide for exceptional patient and family/caregiver experiences,
and meet the needs for operational efficiency and effectiveness.
2
Inspire and empower a culture of caring.
We succeed through the unwavering dedication of our physicians, staff, learners and
volunteers, and their ability to understand and share in the experiences of our patients
and their families/caregivers. As a community teaching hospital, we remain committed to
continuously enhancing our culture of care that is innovative and focused on building on
the strengths of our people and working with those we serve.
3
Collaborate to deliver an outstanding care experience.
We will enhance coordination of our internal patient care activities to improve our overall
delivery of services. As well, we will engage in collaborative planning efforts with our local
and sub-region partners across the continuum of care to provide more streamlined and
patient-oriented services to realize better health outcomes for our patients and community.
These three strategic directions build off and complement one another to collectively drive our
organization to ensure that we provide compassionate care, exemplary service, every time.
Throughout this report, you will learn how we are advancing these areas and improving the lives
of people in our community.
Our Hospital
Joseph Brant Hospital offers a wide range of patient programs including Medicine, Surgery,
Emergency, Critical Care, Maternal and Child, Mental Health and Rehabilitation/Complex Continuing
Care. We also provide a number of clinical services such as ambulatory care, cancer care, diagnostic
imaging, laboratory services, diabetes care, speech language pathology and ophthalmology.
Located in the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant (HNHB) LHIN, Joseph Brant Hospital collaborates
with other health service providers as we participate and support many key regional programs.
In 2017, the Hospital, Foundation, Government of Ontario and the City of Burlington partnered
together to open our seven-storey Patient Tower, the hospital’s first major redevelopment in 40
years. This year, extensive renovations took place in the North Tower to complete this phase of the
Redevelopment and Expansion Project. This work will ensure Joseph Brant Hospital continues to
provide exceptional care today and for generations to come.
