NIAGARA EMPLOYER OF THE YEAR INFORMED PATIENTS MEANS BETTER CARE
JBH was selected as one of Hamilton-Niagara’s Top
15 Employers for 2017, recognized for being an
exceptional place to work for the second year in a
row. Our commitment to recognition and appreciation
initiatives, comprehensive medical and dental benefits,
on-site complimentary massage therapy, yoga, Zumba
and meditation, Annual Wellness Fair and family-friendly
breastfeeding room are just a few of the ways JBH strives
to be an exemplary employer in its industry. The scenic
lakeside location and convenient access to the QEW,
Highway 403 and public transit also contribute to making
JBH an ideal place to work. Congratulations to our teams
for your contributions to making JBH a top employer. Clear communication between patients and care providers
is a simple, crucial part of providing exceptional care.
This year, JBH updated the information we provide to
patients, organizing it into an easy-to-reference pamphlet
so patients know exactly what to expect, how to prepare
for their hospital stay and how they will be supported in
their transition home. Having this information at hand
and available for quick reference helps encourage and
strengthen communication between patients, families and
care providers.
A SYMBOL OF PEACE FOR PALLIATIVE CARE PATIENTS
The last moments of a person’s life are an inexpressibly
special, emotionally significant time and ensuring this time
is respected is our Hospital’s responsibility. Dove signage
was introduced this year as a simple white silhouette of
a dove posted on doorways to create a peaceful, private
environment for palliative patients and their families. Since
its implementation, it has received positive feedback from
patients, families and staff.
CELEBRATING EXCELLENCE WITH KUDOS BOARDS
Kudos boards were added this year as a tool available
for staff to recognize each other for the hard work and
achievements of those on our teams. While the results of
extra effort are evident in their area, simple appreciation
for those efforts is important for keeping a positive work
environment to work in. Recognition goes a long way and
JBH is always proud to celebrate the inspired achievements
and dedication of our staff.
Our Story
To the ED staff and professional staff, thank you for your gentleness with our daughter, your willingness
to listen to a concerned first-time mother who was severely sleep-deprived and your genuine empathy for
both Andie and me while she underwent a spinal tap and many pokes and prods for IVs, etc. To the nurses
who cared for us day and night during our five-day stay on the unit, you made a scary situation much more
tolerable and we are forever grateful for your professionalism, compassion and understanding. The first
two days of our stay while my husband travelled home from a business trip were extremely hard for me
despite having the support of my parents. Our nurses made me feel much less alone with their kindness.
Andie was their patient but they took the time to care for me as well. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Your team is outstanding. I always felt included in decisions and that I could ask any questions, no matter
how silly they might seem. Everything was explained to me clearly, I never felt rushed and I always felt that
everything was being done to ensure when we left the hospital we would know as much as possible about
what was going on with Andie. To the wonderful staff from the Lab who had to visit us many times over
five days, thank you for being so tender and thoughtful while trying to get blood from Andie’s teeny tiny
veins. They truly did all they could to make it as painless (for baby and mom) as possible. – Kate Carlson
