Afoot and light-hearted I take to the open road , Healthy , free , the world before me , The long brown path before me leading wherever I choose . Walt Whitman , “ Song of the Open Road ”
Whew ! I just finished putting together a calendar of events for this spring and I ’ m already exhausted . Overwhelmed , too . There ’ s too much to see , too much to do in the Four-State Area . That ’ s a good thing . This spring ’ s Joplin magazine offers some of our favorite events and destinations , but we ’ ve only scratched the surface . Join us this spring on a road trip to see some of the masterpieces of
Missouri ’ s most famous 20th-century artist . Or hit a world-class bass fishery just minutes from Joplin . One trip to the Wonders of Wildlife Aquarium and Museum in Springfield may not be enough - there ’ s that much to see and do . And if you ’ re like me , no trip to Springfield is complete without a stop at Bass Pro Shops .
The same goes for Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Northwest Arkansas , which is just one of many attractions and sites in the area that everyone should have on their radar .
This spring will offer the last chance to join in the Joplin Memorial Run , which has become Joplin ’ s signature running event . I have run in it and volunteered at it , and it is always spectacular - a poignant reminder of the tornado in 2011 .
So , this spring , plan to hit the road .
