[JOOMAG PREVIEW] Consultant Medical Interview Guide 2024-25 | Page 11

Many applicants take the approach that the Consultant medical interview is some kind of pass / fail test . It is more helpful to consider it as your opportunity to demonstrate how you can bring added value to the organisation .
1.02 The aim of this book
To successfully demonstrate how you can bring added value to the recruiting organisation , you must be ready to effectively present your broad range of skills , experiences and opinions with relevance to your interviewers .
As we want to prove we are not only a suitable candidate for the post in question but the best choice , then we should want to enable the exploration of our skills , experiences and ambitions . You could say the more detailed , the better . This can , however , prove to be more than a little uncomfortable at times - particularly so when areas where we feel less confident are being explored .
It is important on many levels to acknowledge that you have no control whatsoever over the attributes or performance of any other candidate . You can only ever be responsible for your own performance .
Some candidates attending our Consultant Medical Interview Courses want us to tell them exactly what to say and how to behave . This is quite unrealistic and even unethical at worst . The aim of the selection process is to find out about you as an individual . Responding to your assessor ’ s questions with a stock answer would mean that they find out very little about you and has parallels with plagiarism . Plagiarism in written assessments is correctly frowned upon as it can give a false impression of comprehension and ability . Why would this be any different in an interview ? In theory , it would be impossible to differentiate the grading of two people providing the same stock answer . The interviewer ’ s role would become impossible if multiple people offered identical responses .
