Western Power Distribution – Network Services Team Manager
Managed a Network Services team of 29 multi-disciplined engineering staff, responsible for 10 primary substations supplying ~ 90,000 customers. Accountable for achieving operational performance targets while minimising customer interruptions and minutes lost. Responsibilities included team leadership and development; control of capital and revenue budgets; maintenance of high standards of health, safety, and welfare; delivery of customer-driven and networkreinforcement schemes; management of contractors; resolution of customer complaints; and investigation of incidents to drive longterm safety improvement. Served on the out-of-hours standby manager rota, liaising with Control and coordinating HV and LV fault response across Plymouth and the surrounding areas to achieve restoration targets, communicating with affected customers, and ensuring the safety of personnel and the public.

Western Power Distribution – Electricity Network Planner
I served as an LV Network Planner before advancing to HV Network Planner. Key responsibilities included the design, planning, and delivery of new electricity connections, as well as network reinforcement and asset replacement projects, in strict accordance with Company Engineering Policies. I maintained clear and proactive communication with customers and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle. I was accountable for the organisation and cost effectiveness of individual schemes, balancing technical requirements with customer and wider public impact, civil works, public safety, management of electrical subcontractors, and environmental considerations. This involved proficient use of company systems, including in-house project-tracking software, HV and LV network analysis tools, and MS Office, to produce detailed designs and commercial reports. In addition to my core planning responsibilities, I participated in an out-of-hours standby rota, undertaking LV and HV switching and fault-rectification on
ground-mounted apparatus to restore supplies or establish safe working conditions for repair teams and the public.

I completed a time-served apprenticeship as an electrician, working across domestic and commercial environments while attending evening classes to achieve City & Guilds qualifications. Duties included interpreting and applying schematics, technical diagrams, and architectural plans to ensure the safe and compliant installation, maintenance, and testing of wiring and control systems. Responsibilities also included inspecting electrical components, diagnosing faults, and repairing or replacing wiring and electrical apparatus in accordance with statutory regulations and industry best practice. In addition, I supervised, directed, and mentored staff, providing technical guidance and training to ensure the safe, efficient, and high-quality installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment. This role required a strong understanding of UK electrical safety standards and regulatory compliance, as well as the ability to coordinate multiple tasks and manage team performance effectively.
