London is home to many iconic
images, such as the Underground
logo and the routemaster bus and the
thousands of tourists who enjoy the
sites year on year
“Naturally working in London presents many
challenges, which is one of the reasons why fibre
and utilities companies tend to be hesitant to build
new telecommunications networks on a more regular
basis,” said John Henry Group’s Group Telecoms
Director, Jason Mealey, who has been overseeing
the G.Network construction in Mayfair.
“However, we have extensive experience of working
in the capital, which has been really beneficial
throughout this project so far.
“It has helped save considerable time and money for
G.Network, which is one of the reasons the project
has started to become a success in such a short
space of time and has allowed G.Network to already
celebrate delivering its new network to customers
within a week of construction beginning in Grosvenor
Street, in W1.
“We also appreciate that working within the capital
means a focus on the reduction of negative works on
the busy London street scene.
“We are also looking forward to working with
G.Networks to develop new and existing
construction technologies which could further reduce

the impact to businesses and people living within the
city - narrow trenching being the perfect example.
“Because the technique is much faster that a
conventional construction method, it effectively
means we can be out of the way in busy streets
much quicker where it’s feasible to build using this
method and we have already engaged the City of
Westminster with a view to using this construction
method in London and we felt the initial engagement
with the authority was entirely positive - as a result,
we will be exploring trial streets in which we can use
narrow trenching to the benefit of G.Network’s build
process.
“It’s exciting times, as this will be the first time
narrow trenching has been used in the capital.
“It’s our relationships with local authorities cemented
over the decades in which we have been working in
the capital, which have allowed us to engage them
to test their reception to these new and progressive
methods, which has, in turn, assisted G.Network as
our client.”
Companies based in Mayfair are now able to
register their interest in receiving ‘pure’ ultrafast
fibre to the premises (FTTP) from G.Network.
