JOBS RESOURCES 14 Interview MISTAKES and how to avoid them It is hard enough just to get an interview in a bad economy. The last thing you want to do is wreck your chances by making a stupid interview mistake. Interviews can be stressful, and it is all too easy to make a blunder that could cost you the trust of the interviewer - and the job. Avoiding these common but totally avoidable interview mistakes can boost your confidence - and your chances of landing the job you want and need. 1. NOT DRESSING THE PART. Dress for the job you want to have. Learn as much as you can about the dress code at the company you are applying to - and dress appropriately. 2. THINKING A PHONE INTERVIEW IS NO BIG DEAL. Many companies use phone interviews to screen potential candidates while cutting costs. As a job seeker, you need to take the phone interview as seriously as you would an in-person one. Be sure to eliminate as much background noise as possible - from pets and kids to TVs and radios - before the phone interview begins. 3. NOT POWERING DOWN YOUR CELL PHONE. A ringing cell phone could torpedo the interview, or at least throw it off kilter. Be sure to turn your cell phone off completely - not just set it on vibrate before stepping into the interviewer’s office. Are You Injured? Are You Disabled?
