Job-shadowing in Sønderskov-Skolen (Søndenborg, Denmark)
4th February 2019 - 8th February 2019
When we left to Denmark, we were carrying some
goals in our luggage. From them all, I particularly
focused on the following: to get acquired with another
education system and school environment, to get new
strategies to implement in the management of
innovation programmes (especially regarding PBL and
plurilingualism), and to strengthen bonds to design
new international projects.
Our contact person there, Hayssam Gheith, organized our programme at the school and outside
too. It consisted of visiting Sonderskov-Skolen and other schools in Søndenborg, attending
presentations about The Danish education system and about Sonderskov-Skolen, attending,
observing and actively participating in different lessons, attending a session of a course for teachers
(LEAPS), meeting teachers, students, members of the administration team, coordinators, teacher
trainers, project managers of KATA Fonden and educational counsellors, visiting The Global House
and sightseeing Søndenborg.
I’d like to highlight two features of our stay at Sønderskov-Skolen that have had direct effect on my
everyday’s organization; THE GLOBAL HOUSE and LEAPS. In the following pages, you’ll find detailed
information about them.
I must say that it has been a privilege to be able to see and share how they work in Sønderskov-
Skolen, how they are organizing the implementation of the PBL programme LEAPS and how they
manage all about internationalization. But although seeing lessons and sharing methodologies is
always rewarding, what, from my observation, we have still something to catch up with is the way
they organize as a whole around education. Authorities (The Municipality), firms, organizations,
schools, the University, families…, they go at once, forming a united front to reach the best
education possible. They really appear to think that only by means of this cooperation, a better
society can emerge.
