Ss are working on a project (sustainable development EU goals) which
involve the social science T and the Swedish T.
Ss apparently work in groups. We are allowed to ask them and to our
surprise, they simply divided their task equally - a particular energy,
previously assigned by the T- and work individually.
Challenging group concept with the teacher Ann Arvedal
Ann Arvedal is responsible for the aesthetic program in Upplands-Brogymnasiet.
She is also in charge of the “challenging groups” based on the philosophy of
James Nottingham Encouraging learning principles. Teaching should be
adjusted so that all Ss can participate, including special need Ss and high
performing Ss. The challenging groups are not necessarily made up of high
performing Ss, but Ss who are willing to improve and get higher marks thanks to
their effort and endurance. Therefore, what is praised is the Ss effort and his/her
desire to improve.
I found it very interesting because when dealing with
diversity, we normally refer to high and low performing Ss, when the majority of Ss
normally belong to the medium spectrum. It is also inspiring to find ways to
develop willpower in Ss. Needless to say, this conception entails greater human
resources and the possibility of having flexible groups.
