Income
One indicator of economic growth in a region is the median household
income of a jurisdiction. As shown in Table 2‐20, median household income is
varied from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. Dare County is the only jurisdiction
with a median income above the North Carolina median income. This is most
like due to the high profitability of the tourism industry, along with the high
cost of living required to reside in such an area. Wayne County is another
jurisdiction with a high median income, which may be associated with the
presence of Seymour Johnson AFB. Almost all of the jurisdictions have seen a
