This funding mechanism is the only one that exists for the state of North
Carolina regarding the protection of military assets and acquisition of land
and conservation easements. Whereas other states across the nation have
enacted various laws to assist in the protection of strategic military assets as
well as provide some financial assistance to communities that host military
installations regarding other components of military compatibility planning
including land use and infrastructure planning and workforce and education
training. Table 5.8‐1 outlines the other states that have enacted laws to
benefit the military and the communities that host installations ranging from
land acquisition to land use and infrastructure planning and workforce
training.
