THE COMPANY

In this article “Advertising vs. Editorial [i],” they point out the differences between what an advertising photograph would look like versus an editorial photo. An advertising photo looks simpler, more natural, and is used to sell a product. Editorial “sells more of the mood and the situation (fashion photography blog).”

Many might say that advertising is more relatable and shows the everyday person, while editorial is mostly what is shown in magazines and is more lavish and almost celestial. They are aiming towards a more wealthy demographic that can afford to feel out of this world.

With that being said, we want to create the mood of extravagance and edgy, but still attainable by setting them in a more everyday, urban street fashion kind of way. It’s “not your typical out to the grocery store look, but still, why not look this good on an average day?” kind of lifestyle. We can advertise affordable, but trendy fashions, on people who appear to be an everyday kind of person.

Lookbook is a great example of this. While the people on this social media platform are everyday people, they still look like they are living extravagantly without breaking bank.

Again, we want to sell a mood, not a product. A hybrid of urban fashion meets high fashion. Even if it’s not an “all natural” look, it is a still very attainable look.
