JKAMN Magazine will be using Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Instagram for its social media platforms. The social media example that JKAMN Magazine followed is that of NYLON Magazine. NYLON has seven social media outlets: their website, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Tumblr and Pinterest. Although JKAMN could use all seven of these outlets, we have decided to focus on the platforms that are able to reach out to young people that are technologically savvy and have an edgy fashion sense.

Facebook is an extremely popular platform that many magazines have. As soon as you look at the NYLON facebook page, you immediately see the cover photo and a phrase that NYLON uses in all of their platforms, which is “the most awesome magazine in the world.”

This phrase is a very young, hip thing to say, which has the ability to attract many young readers. JKAMN wants to create this illusion on the facebook page. JKAMN wants to create a facebook page that young adults will want to visit, and this will be achieved by posting pictures, videos and outfit inspirations.

The goal is to talk about what the younger generations want to hear and talk about: movies, today’s music, the latest trends and celebrities. JKAMN wants to embrace the idea of being young and fashionable.

JKAMN will utilize Facebook by posting pictures of models, fashion trends, new articles and fashion inspiration. JKAMN will use facebook as a main platform mainly because it is easily accessible and posts can be shared easily as well.

Instagram has a younger audience, so JKAMN needs to be able to connect with them. A younger, edgier audience is exactly what JKAMN wants and needs, so their instagram pictures need to appeal to them. NYLON’s pictures on instagram are always very artistically posed and mainly consist of fashion inspiration and food.

JKAMN wants to create a young, edgy vibe with their instagram while also remaining very exclusive. JKAMN will post pictures of fashion inspiration like outfits, the latest trends and celebrity street style. The trend in pictures, especially instagram, is minimalism. Many of the pictures will have plain white backgrounds and be artistic. This trend is what many of the younger generations follow, especially those that we are trying to target.

Twitter will allow JKAMN to be more connected to their audience. According to Buffer [i], Twitter users tend to be between the ages of 18-29 and live in urban areas. JKAMN wants to appeal to this demographic, mainly because this magazine is based off of fashionable, young, city people. The strategy for twitter is to post many pictures, possibly linking them to instagram and facebook as well. Many people learn and obtain information visually, so pictures will be posted daily.

For people that want to stay with the latest trends, JKAMN’s twitter will allow them to find out trends and fashion related news quickly. JKAMN’s twitter will be updated multiple times a day to keep all of the followers informed.

Tumblr:

Magazines like Vogue [ii], NYLON [iii] and GQ [iv] all have Tumblrs that showcase their pictures and post fashion inspiration. Blogging among the younger generation is becoming more and more popular, and “reblogging” posts from JKAMN will brand the magazine. Tumblr is an outlet that will let JKAMN reach out to the audience that it needs to reach, which are the 18-29 year olds. JKAMN will post pictures of upcoming trends, insight about future designers, shows, and street fashion.

Other Platforms:

JKAMN is using Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to promote itself as a magazine. However, there are many social media outlets that were not covered. JKAMN will not be using Pinterest or YouTube as outlets.

According to Buffer, Pinterest’s audience is under 50, a range that is much too high for the target audience that JKAMN wants to reach. People that use Pinterest are also more likely to live in rural areas rather than urban, defeating the purpose of advertising city fashion in a rural area.

Since JKAMN is a magazine, YouTube would be a platform that would be difficult to advertise on. Some magazines post videos of interviews with celebrities, but JKAMN’s focus is fashion and fashion inspiration, a method that is easily achieved through pictures.

Overall Social Media:

JKAMN’s overall goal is to brand a youthful, edgy fashion magazine that showcases street style throughout our generation. To do so, popular platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr will be used in order to maximize engagement and increase the relationship between the magazine and the audience.
