I AM ME

Avery Leloup — Grade 8

As much as you try to deny it With nonchalance for how you act , I know who I am ; You will never change that .
While my appearance might be bothersome In your judgmental and negative mind , To look between genders is no crime . Living life is best undefined .
For I am the sun and the moon , Day and night . The best of both worlds Feels perfectly right .
I am feminine like my mother Until the birds stop singing , And masculine like my father Until people aren ' t forgiving .
I exist for my own comfort , Because I was born to be me . I am not yours , This shouldn ’ t be difficult to see .
Why did you think your words would work ?
Did you believe I would die As if I was bird shot from the skies , Before I learned to fly ?
