Academic integrity means completing your own assignments, giving proper credit when using others’ ideas, and avoiding plagiarism.
Plagiarism means copying someone else’ s words or work without permission or citation— is a serious offense. Students are expected to do their own thinking and submit original work.
Violations may result in a loss of grade for the given assessment and further consequences as outlined below:
Progressive Discipline for Academic Dishonesty
Teachers are expected to complete a Discipline Referral Form if the incident reaches a level that warrants administrative action. The form will be submitted to the student’ s Assistant Principal. A copy will also be provided to the student’ s School Counselor.
Discipline for academic dishonesty is loss of the grade for the assignment / assessment. The action could have significant impact on a student’ s overall grade. Repeat or chronic offenders could receive additional disciplinary consequences as warranted.
Consequences for academic dishonesty will vary due to the type of work involved. There are two categories that we use to decide our actions. The categories are“ minor assignments”( homework, classwork, and class projects),“ major assignments”( tests, benchmark assessments, papers). Generally, major assignments will represent a significant percentage of a student’ s overall grade.
Discipline guidelines are as follows:
