From the World Language Department:
In order to help World Language students understand the idea that learning a lan-
guage is a skill that requires time and practice, the World Language department be-
gan the year by discussing the concept of developing proficiency in other skills. All the
students completed a project in which they used visual representations and written
explanations to show the novice, intermediate and advanced stages of learning a skill
of their choice. At each stage, the students had to discuss what can be done at that
stage and what will need to happen to get to the next stage. Some of the students
chose some very interesting skills such as playing a sport or instrument, being a mem-
ber of a drama production and creating with Legos. Students are reminded that they
will each follow their own “path to proficiency” and to feel proud of the progress they
are making. For more information on proficiency, the stages or the path, parents and
students can visit www.ACTFL.org (the official website for the American Council on
the Teaching of Foreign Languages).
From Jane’s Team:
Jane’s Team 2018 (JFK’s Relay for Life team) had a successful year raising money for
the American Cancer Society. We are ready for another year of fun and profitable
fundraisers- and we are looking for new members. Any student who is looking to
make new friends, have a lot of fun and help raise money to find a cure for cancer
should plan to attend an informational meeting after school on Wednesday, October
10 in 2R (one of the portable World Language classrooms outside of Red
House). Please see or contact Mrs. Fawthrop (kfawthrop@enfieldschools.org) for
more information.
