JEWISH ENTREPRENEUR’S INSIGHT
Every year, Helping Hands (the young
fundraising division of the Chevrah Kadisha)
hosts the very popular JEI event (Jewish
Entrepreneur’s Insight), sponsored by Investec,
which attracts over 600 young Jewish people.
This year was no different and bookings filled
up faster than ever. The guest speakers, Scott
and Ally Svenson (who flew in from America),
discussed their entrepreneurial journey,
which included the founding of Seattle Coffee
Company, Scott’s presidential role at Starbucks,
the founding of Carluccio’s Italian Deli and
MOD Pizza. This was followed by a Q&A and a
fantastic prize giveaway.

To round off the auspicious occasion, guests enjoyed a light dinner
and cocktails on the veranda overlooking the green rolling hills of
Izinga, proud home of the two beautiful new Sifrei Torah.

TORAH COMPLETION AND DEDICATION
CEREMONY HELD AT UMHLANGA JEWISH CENTRE
A recent joyous celebration was held to mark the completion of two Sifrei
Torah and their welcoming to the synagogue at the Umhlanga Jewish
Centre in Izinga, KwaZulu-Natal. The two Torah scrolls, one Sephardic
and one Ashkenazi, were dedicated by the Zekry and Mann families
respectively in loving memory of Rav Menachem and Liza Zekry Z’L,
and Nadine Hayley Mann Z’L. Many honourable guests joined the Zekry
and Mann families and the Umhlanga Jewish Centre community for the
occasion, including Chief Rabbi Dr Warren Goldstein and Rosh Beth Din
Rabbi Moshe Kurtstag.
