f ever there was one meal that anchored
a restaurant’s menu, it would have to be
the classic hamburger. The burger is that
happy meal; it’s that go-to nosh. The burger
is the definition of simplicity, coolness and allAmericaness, the epitome of pop culture. But, I’m on
the lookout for the premier kosher burger this side
of the Big Apple.
As I roll through Jozi, slinging my pencil,
notebook and camera from Morningside in the

north to Glenhazel in the east, I’ll be nibbling my
way through the fare that Joburg Jewry has to
offer. This is the Kosher Burger Showdown, and I’m
