CHARITY
Alessa shows
its support at
Charity Week
2018
Established four years ago, the event
aims to help underprivileged youth
and raise awareness on the education
and health issues surrounding them.
Fine jewellery brand Alessa will
feature its products at the 2018 Charity
Week 2018, during which 20% of
the cost of every piece sold at its
boutiques and online will be donated
to four nonprofit organisations based
in Guatemala.
The limited-edition collection has
specifically been designed to raise
money, awareness and support across
different non-profit organisations in
Guatemala. Additionally, the brand
donates 20% of its sales for every
piece sold from the Give Wings
Collection all year round.
The design of the collection is
inspired by swan wings, and is
available in both white and rose
gold, adorned with white diamonds
and rubies.
Alessandra Robles, founder,
said: “The Give Wings Collection is
for us a symbol of freedom, rebirth
and strength. For us, each piece
sparkles with a purpose and a
committed message therefore
making each holder an ambassador
to a great cause.”

CRIME
Hatton Garden
jewellery raiders
ordered to pay
£27.5m
The four men who led the Hatton
Garden raid have been ordered to pay
£27.5m or face another seven years in
prison.
The gang drilled a hole in the wall of
a vault at Hatton Garden Safe Deposit
in Easter 2015. The raid was labelled
as the “largest burglary in English legal
history” and two thirds of the valuables
still haven’t been recovered.
Christopher Kinch, the judge
handling the case, said that the men
“jointly benefitted from an estimated
£13.69m worth of stolen cash, gold and
gems”.
He added: “A number of these
defendants are not only of a certain
age, but have in some cases serious
health problems.
“But as a matter of principle and
policy it is very difficult to endorse
any approach that there is a particular
treatment for someone who chooses
to go out and commit offences at the
advanced stage of their lives that some
of these defendants were”.
QUOTE OF THE MONTH
“I stopped them immediately. Some customers
thought they were funny. But such clips were
no longer suitable and do not reflect values of
today’s society.”
This is what George Kern, CEO Breitling, said after receiving
letters of complaint from people concerned about some Breitling
advertisements’ portrayal of women.

GOODWILL
Chisholm Hunter
supports poetry
charity event
Jeweller and diamond retailer Chisholm
Hunter has helped specialist charity
Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Scotland
(SBH Scotland) to raise more than
£57,000 at its annual ‘A Question of
Burns’ supper.
The company donated a variety of
jewellery pieces, including a set of 18ct
white gold and diamond flower cluster
drop earrings worth more than £1,500.
It also provided a diamond pendant
worth £1,495 for the silent auction and
10 TW steel watches, which were given
to the winning team of a poetry quiz.
Harry Brown, managing director,
said: “Chisholm Hunter has been proud
to watch our relationship with SBH
Scotland progress and develop over
our 20-year association.
“Our pride and faith in this charity
stems from the profound positive
impact that it has directly on the lives of
3,500 families affected by spina bifida,
hydrocephalus, or related conditions.
We hope to continue to show the same
commitment to SBH Scotland that they
continuously demonstrate to each of
their members.”
Deborah Roe, fundraising director
at SBH Scotland, said: “We always
look forward to ‘A Question of Burns’,
which continues to go from strength to
strength in numbers and gives us the
opportunity to welcome so many new
faces.
“Our ability to grow the event would
not have been possible without the
continued support of our presenting
sponsors Chisholm Hunter.”
