The Harry Potter star won the ceremony’s first ever gender-neutral title, picking up the best big-screen actor gong for her role in Beauty and the Beast. On the night, Watson wore a pair of 18ct white gold diamond spike earrings from the Natalie K for Forevermark range. She completed her look with a Kitx Fall metal disc sequin dress and a pair of SUSI Studio Hey Simone sandals. Watson said of the new award category: “MTV’s move to create a gender-less award for acting will mean something different to everyone. “But to me, it indicates that acting is about the ability to put yourself in someone else’s shoes. And that doesn’t need to be separated into two different categories.” Describing her win as “meaningful”, the 27-year-old noted that the genderless award said “something about how we perceive the human experience”. 8 JEWELLERY FOCUS De Beers is aiming to make some of its mines carbon-neutral within the next five to 10 years. The mining company said it is devising a method for storing carbon dioxide in kimberlite rocks. It will look at how to speed up the naturally occurring process of kimberlite reacting with carbon to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The process happens faster in kimberlite than it does in other rocks, but it is still too slow to balance out the mine’s manmade carbon emissions. Dr. Evelyn Mervine, who is leading the project at De Beers, said: “Mineral carbonation technologies are not new, but what is new is the application of these technologies to kimberlite ore.” She added: “The research is in its early stages, and it may take some time before it is economically or practically achievable to tap into this full storage potential. “However, even just tapping into a small amount could greatly reduce the net emissions at many of our mine sites in the near future, and possibly lead to carbon-neutral mining at some sites within the next five to 10 years.” Samer Halimeh NY has revealed its London flagship store as well as future plans for more retail outlets in the UK. The diamond jewellery brand has its headquarters on Fifth Avenue in New York but will make its London store its global flagship, located in Knightsbridge. The brand also has boutiques in Riyadh and Kuala Lumpur.
