TRADE SHOWS
Baselworld
halves exhibitors
and reduces
stand price
Watch and jewellery fair Baselworld
will be reducing its number of
exhibitors for the 2018 event, with 600-
700 brands expected to exhibit.
This is a reduction from the show’s
1,300 exhibitors at the 2017 show.
This was down by 200 exhibitors on
2016’s show. The stand rental price has
also been reduced by 10%.
This announcement follows the news
that the event will run for six days - two
days shorter than usual.
A newsletter said: “Baselworld
remains faithful to its strategy of
quality and diversity. However,
the watch and jewellery market is
undergoing a period of profound
change, first and foremost through the
increasing consolidation of the market
in terms of production and marketing,
but also through the challenges and
opportunities of digital technology.
“Responding to this development,
Baselworld 2018 presents itself in a
denser and more concentrated form in
several respects. The duration of the
show will be shortened by two days
and will run for six days. The number of
exhibiting companies will be between
600 and 700.”
It continued: “Baselworld has
decided to maintain its outstanding
quality for the next edition. The show
does not rely on quantity, but will
remain the leading event for premier
global brands. And this in all segments.”

Jewlr and
Edinburgh Assay

quality control
part nership
North American online jewellery
retailer, Jewlr, has announced its
partnership with the Edinburgh Assay
Office (EAO).
The EAO’s hallmarking services will
be combined with Jewlr’s craftsmanship
and personalised styles, to bring fine
jewellery of the highest quality to
customers in the United Kingdom.
Since 1457, the EAO has been
verifying the purity of precious metals,
applying its hallmarks only to jewellery.
The company has evolved over its
550 years of service to incorporate the
latest in testing technologies and laser
hallmarking techniques.
The new luxury line, along with each

inspected and verified by the EAO
before being delivered to customers.
Tony Davis, founder and CEO of
Jewlr, said: “It’s a really significant
move for us. Now that we are
expanding into the luxury market,
it’s more important than ever that
we provide our clients with every
assurance that the jewellery they get
from us not only meets, but exceeds
industry standards. Partnering with the
EAO, one of the most trusted names in
hallmarking, allows us to do that.”

CELEBRITY
Swarovski
releases ‘all-
star’ Christmas
campaign
Following in the success of previous
years, this Christmas sees the launch of
a new star-filled Swarovski campaign,
celebrating highlights from the Autumn
Winter ’17 collection brilliance for all.
Launched with a Crystal Wonderland
Party during Milan Fashion Week, the
new Christmas campaign and television
advertisement features Swarovski’s brand
ambassador Karlie Kloss alongside
Jourdan Dunn, Naomi Campbell and
Boy George, all celebrating the brand’s
#GiveBrilliant message.
The campaign launched in the UK on
8 November, and it is the first time that
Swarovski have shown a 30” television
advertisement.
It will run until 23 December and will
be shown across all key terrestrial and
digital channels in the UK and Ireland.
With its Christmas campaign and
cast, Swarovski continues to express
and exemplify the beauty of the
modern-day woman and the brand’s
‘Brilliance for All’ message.
The Christmas campaign and
television advertisement feature pieces
from the Autumn Winter Collection,
from the Swarovski Remix Collection
and the Angelic line.
Karlie Kloss said: “The holiday
season is all about bringing people
together and finding ways to celebrate
those who are special to us, which is at
the heart of the campaign. To that end,
it was incredible to shoot with so many
talented people who are also so close
to my heart.
“It was an amazing experience
shared with Jourdan Dunn, Fei Fei
Sun, Ruby Rose and of course Naomi
Campbell, who is both a mentor and
friend. I’m truly grateful to have been a
part of this.”
