n Sunday, 27 of May and on the 13th of Sivan, the Jewish community of Melbourne mourned the passing of my grandmother, Rebbetzin Devorah Groner. As a Chassid of the previous Rebbe and of the Rebbe of our generation, she remained in close connection with the Rebbe and reported everything she did as a Shluchah. Hers and her husbands, Rabbi Yitzchak Dovid Groner OBM work for the very little Jews of Melbourne, Australia, built up a thriving Jewish community. Every day, as my brothers and I came home from school and when we waited in her house , she came to our needs and gave us treats, even in her old age. We very much enjoyed the time we were able to spend with her. She loved us and we loved her. She was the woman which the community and her family came to her for advice. I personally had a connection with her. When I taught her how to put on COLlive, or when she scolded me when I ate outside the kitchen, we always showed our affection for each other and I'm sure it was the same with all of the family. She was an Aishes Chayil in many ways and brought happiness to everyone. On the 3rd of Sivan 5685 (1926) she was born in Smolensk, Russia to Rabbi Chaim Tzvi and Bryna Konikov, but fled from the threat of Communism to the United States with her family when she was 5 years old. Her father, was a Tomim, a student of the Tomchei Temimim in Lubavitch itself. Devorah the Prophetess was the leader of the Jewish nation in a section of the era of the Philistines and fought for Judaism and Sara Imeinu brought the woman closer to the newly made religion of Judaism.
