12 LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

In fact I’ ve been surprised by the range of destinations beyond the normal tourist path you feature in the magazine. You’ ve definitely given me food for thought planning my next vacation.

Dear Nick,
I’ ve followed JETSETTER for the last few issues, picking it up whenever I see it as I pass through airport lounges in Hong Kong and Singapore. I really enjoyed the article on golfing in New Zealand Golfing at the End of the World, p56 and hope to see more for Asian golf enthusiasts like myself. My wife and I travel twice a year with fellow golfing friends but had not contemplated New Zealand before. The caliber of the courses you recommended, coupled with the island’ s remarkable coastal scenery, have definitely caught our attention.

Dear JETSETTER team,
My wife and I left it very late to book a ski holiday this year, as it’ s our first winter in Asia. Although we’ re keen skiers, we didn’ t fancy the trip back to Europe, but also didn’ t think the slopes in Asia would be up to much. However, after reading your recent skiing feature Piste Pleasers, p78 we were able to secure a late deal around Chinese New Year, and I can say that it definitely lived up to your hype. The four zones made for an impressive list of runs, and we’ ve actually booked a cheeky long weekend back there at the end of the season.

To the Editor,
It was great to see you put a different spin on the James Bond 50th anniversary story; as a self-confessed Bondophile, I did tire of the endless consumerism of Bond features in other magazines, and the range of hotels you featured was really impressive. In fact I’ ve been surprised by the range of destinations beyond the normal tourist path you feature in the magazine. You’ ve definitely given me food for thought planning my next vacation.

Dear Editor,
I’ m from Singapore and my fiancé is British and we have been up to our eyeballs planning a wedding. Bali has always been in our top three destinations and your recent Bali weddings feature The Anatomy of a Bali Wedding, p86, has certainly helped the island’ s cause— I couldn’ t think of any location more stunning and romantic. Thanks for the inspiration.
Carla Hon, Singapore
Dear JETSETTER Team,
We often see your magazine in airport lounges or the rooms of the hotels my husband and I stay in for work throughout Asia and especially enjoy the Boutique & Beautiful section. We typically stay in international chain hotels when on business because the company has a corporate rate, but when we travel for leisure we like to stay in hotels that are eclectic and different. We are headed to Sydney for a wedding in April and I wondered if you had any suggestions for boutique hotels Downunder?
Meredith Clay, Hong Kong
Editor’ s Note: Many thanks for your email Meredith and I share your love of unique boutique hotels. In Sydney you have plenty of choice; The Darling may be a casino hotel( it’ s located at The Star casino in Darling Harbour) but it has a boutique vibe, beautiful rooms and some great bars and restaurants downstairs. In Darlinghurst the Kirketon has long been a favourite with trendsetters hitting the chic restaurants and clubs of Oxford Street and Surrey Hills but you’ ll need to book well in advance. There is also the new QT hotel, which has recently opened to critical acclaim in the former Gowings Department Store in the centre of the city.
