was gone. I phoned the police and they said that they have my car and I needed to pay my parking fines. They told me to have $ 300 cash and go to an address in lower Manhattan. When I arrived there, I gave them the money and they told me to go to another address in the sleazy part of the Bronx to pick up my car which I did.
Having a car makes life a bit easier particularly when I wanted to visit my older sisters Linda and Marcelle in New Jersey or drive down to visit my parents who were living in Florida at the time.

I took a few weeks before school to drive 24 hours south to Florida and found myself using the cruise control for a good deal of the way. In fact I drove for hundreds of miles with my feet up across the other seat, while I smoked a hash pipe and I just used my hand to slow down and accelerate. Quite an experience. I wandered around Miami taking photos with my Hasselblad camera.
I was so glad that I visited my parents because that was the last time that I saw my Mom who had terminal bowel cancer and died at a relatively early age. The funeral was held in New Jersey after a couple of months of my visit to Florida and I was able to attend. It was one of those rare moments to see my Aunts, Uncles and cousins whom I hadn’ t seen in many years.
