Werewolves of London
I glanced up to see 150 people looking directly at me. I was on stage with a guitar in my hand and a microphone in my face and it was my turn to sing a song. I was scared stiff but I went for it. The band started playing and I started singing my solo- cocaine- the Jackson Browne version from his 1977 Album Running on Empty.‘ Cocaine, running all round my brain.’ I wasn’ t thinking about the audience who were mostly professional musicians and friends of the lead guitarist in our band. I kept singing until the end of the song and people actually clapped! It was our first gig and our band was making a hit in front of the toughest crowd to play for. After a while some of the musicians from the audience came up to the stage to play which allowed us to do some dancing.

Jono’ s Dad, Ian Morison and I were in a rock and roll band for nearly 10 years and had quite a bit of fun during that extended time. Ian is a specialist lawyer( Barrister) and a great guitarist and singer. We formed a band, that I named the Unbearable ' s, that had in addition to us, a lead guitarist and singer, Prof George Jellenick, who had played in many gigs and he was a medical specialist and head of the emergency department at one of the large teaching hospitals, my brother-in-law, who was a lawyer and was our drummer and an occupational health physician who was our bass guitarist Steve Clarke. I was the weakest link of the band but they kept me in as I had the organizational skills but not the best rhythm guitar skills. We practiced at least once a week and learned quite a few songs and had about 20 songs in our repertoire. We had another few gigs in a small pub and it was quite a bit of fun over the years to be in this band that many times we used my house for practice sessions. It was great to see my band buddies outside of the band and one time I visited Ian at the ultraconservative law firm where he worked. After walking into the firm, I heard Ian’ s call from way down the hall as he bellowed loudly, Ah Ooooooooooh, which was from one of the song’ s on our list, Werewolves of London. It was so out of character for this stuffy law firm and we laughed quite a bit.
