Boats, Capri, Italy Photo by Barry Epstein
deep into the bowels of the train station to the platform that connected us with a train to Sorrento. At the platform there were large flashing signs warning us of pickpockets. The train station was looking very dodgy and it was extremely crowded. We huddled together and Mimi had taken all of our money and valuables and put it in her concealed wallet beneath her shirt. At this point, Mimi looked as though she was pregnant as she had her handbag together with our wallets. We could now see our train coming into the station as it rounded the turn and it was packed with people. We held our arms together in the crowd and I used the line from the movie Armageddon and literally yelled,“ OK suck it up, this is what we trained for.” Just as I said this the doors opened and we charged forward. We then became separated and someone had given up their seat for Mimi as they thought that she was pregnant. Luke, Ryan and I had to stand for the majority of the 2 hour trip but that was not a problem as the real fear of theft was overcome. We made it to Sorrento and quickly found our hotel.

The town was virtually empty as we were there in the off season but it was still very nice. We took the ferry out to Capri the next day and enjoyed the sights of this classy island with charming architecture and lovely old boats. Back in Sorrento, we found the pizza crust to be thinner than usual and it was the best. One night Ryan ordered a pizza with hotdogs and french fries! Mimi and I always wound up finding the best place that served our preferred fettuccine and clam sauce( vongole). The next day, we took a bus to the pretty town of Positano as the road winded its way along the ocean we could see the cliffs below. The wow factor is there when you arrive at Positano and walk down to the beach. It is delightful and gorgeous and should possibly become an item on the bucket list if you have not been there yet.
